What were you grateful for this week?
That I got to their house with minimal struggle and without getting lost!
What was the most difficult or challenging part of this week?
I have no idea where I am, how to navigate the city, or what anybody around me is saying. And my phone only works on WiFi so I cannot use google maps or google translate to help with these issues haha.
Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week.
they loved the gifts I brought them! The children were looking at their English books all day yesterday (even though it may have only been for the pictures).
Tell us about your week!
It has been a crazy 72 hours. I left Friday/Saturday at midnight and got here Sunday morning. That being said, the only sleep I got for two days was on a plane. I was able to stay awake most of Sunday, with a small nap in the evening, and slept 12 hours my first night in a home again.
The dad and youngest son were waiting for my arrival at the train station with a “Welcome Natalie” sign, which was great to see! It was fun meeting everybody and being in the home. The parents speak very good English, but the boys barely speak any which is going to be challenging but fun to teach them.
We went for a walk around the area my family lives and then to lunch. They were showing me all of the old and new architecture and explaining what everything was that we were passing. I learned that Italians eat a lot! But they stay so skinny because they walk everywhere haha. All of the food here is delicious.
Today, Monday, I was still catching up on unpacking and my jet lag. The family’s nanny came today as well, she works during the week. She only speaks Italian and Spanish, but luckily my Spanish is advanced enough that I could communicate with her throughout the day! She showed me where the boys’s schools are, how to navigate to them, and the process of everything once we get home.
They started listening to me a little more, but still ignore me a lot of the time, probably because they don’t really understand me. It is sooo cute though when the three year old yells, “Natalie!” From the other room with his little Italian accent. I know I have a lot to learn from the boys, the parents, and the city itself and it will be a challenge. I also know that this will be one of the greatest experiences ever!
