What were you grateful for this week?
This week I was grateful for Facetime. It’s such a wonderful blessing to see and talk to my friends and family, even for just a few minutes.
As one of the most challenging parts of every week, I’ve had a hard time with being so reliant. Usually people move away from home to become more independent and I’d consider myself typical in that aspect. Instead, it’s been hard for me to handle the dependency and loss of freedom I’ve encountered here due to a few non typical factors. I’m excited to go home and get that back.
I feel like every week I comment on how much the kids are progressing, but every week I am more and more impressed! This week was no exception. I can see the 5 year old’s comprehension improving rapidly and he is always eager to try communicating things to me, even when he’s not sure. It nice to watch him get better and better every week.
This past weekend I went to Cinque Terre. On Saturday I took a train to Vernazza, one of the five towns that make up the National Park. There I met up with N and we started our trip with pizza. We then started on a hike connecting Vernazza with the next town, Corniglia. It wound along the sides of the hills directly above the sea. We made it to Corniglia just as the sun was setting and caught the sight of the brightly colored buildings warmed further by the golden hues. We took a train from there back to Vernazza and got a classic dinner of pasta to finish off the day.
Sunday was spent primarily at Manarola. The weather was gray and rainy which muted the colors slightly and made the dark colors darker. It might seem strange, but I loved the sights like this almost more than the warm tones viewed the previous day. The loss of vibrancy did not cause a loss in beauty. The pouring rain, which might ruin another tourist’s trip, worked to make mine all the better.
The small towns that make up Cinque Terre are even more stunning in person than they seem in the already breath-taking photos. It did not disappoint and was perfect as one of my last trips here. I’m glad it was where I chose to go.
