What were you grateful for this week?
This week I was grateful for the 2 Rome abroad girls I met up with in Rome! Without them, I wouldn’t have had nearly as much fun.
What was the most difficult or challenging part of this week?
The most challenging part of this week was finding my way to and around Rome all by myself, I’m still working on being self dependent when it comes to traveling.
Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week.
Both my host family and I were gone for the entire week so there wasn’t really any room for a “wow” moment, but I did share some candy I got in Rome with the kids!
Tell us about your week!
This week was all one big adventure for me! On Monday a friend from Pordenone picked me up and we went out to dinner there, afterwards I stayed the night there so I could make my train in the morning. I took a train from Pordenone to Venice, and then from there to Rome. As soon as I got to the train station in Rome I was overwhelmed with a feeling of fear and inadequacy. I was in a foreign country, in a city i had never been to, with no idea where I was or how to get anywhere, and unable to check into my Airbnb for another 4 hours. Honestly, I sat on my suitcase in the train station and cried for a solid 20 minutes. Eventually, I snapped myself out of it and decided to go down to the metro and try to see some sights.
I ended up getting off at Colosseo hoping to be able to see the colosseum, and I did! It was AMAZING. I ended up just walking around Rome with my luggage and saw everything I could. I saw the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish steps, the Victor Emanuel III palace, and so much more! I ended up using the metro to find my Airbnb with my phone battery at 1%, and I sat outside the Airbnb with a dead phone hoping my host would find me. All around, Tuesday was a crazy, crazy day, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
Wednesday was a bit easier, I figured out the metro system and was able to make my way back to the Victor Emanuel III palace. I went inside and climbed the stairs to the top of the palace and the view was absolutely incredible! I felt like I could see all of Rome! I ended up walking around all sides of the top of the palace for about an hour just seeing everything there was to see and it was breathtaking!
Eventually, I was able to meet up with another Rome Abroad girl and she showed me around Rome and took me to McDonald’s, which I didn’t realize I missed so much until I had it again. That night was Halloween so we met up with another girl and got dressed up as vampires and went to a party there in Rome. It was quite the experience, especially since I had never been to a club before. We ended up staying out until 5:30 am, just in time for public transportation to start running again! I got about and hour of sleep and then was on my way back to Pordenone.
I stayed in Pordenone for Thursday-Sunday with a friend. I mostly just walked the streets and ate gelato and it was so easy and so fun! On Saturday we went to see a beautiful cave in a little story-book looking town that was SO CUTE. Afterwards we went to lake Barcis and saw some spectacular views! It was a great week, to say the least.
