What were you grateful for this week?
Being able to meet my wonderful host family!

What was the most challenging part of this week?
Learning how to navigate my new neighborhood.

Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week.
I was able to give the kids that I am with an American football that they loved — it helped make them more comfortable with me and trust me more.

Tell us about your week!
The plane ride to Rome seemed to go by so fast, in no time I was already there! I was very excited to meet my host family, and was picked up at the airport by my host father. He was so kind to me and told me all about where I would be living, and about his family. After I arrived at the apartment, my host family gave me a little time to get settled and then took me out to see the city around me. Near to my apartment is a beautiful outlook where one can see the city down below, and it was amazing to be introduced to Rome that way. As the day went on I became more and more tired from flying for two days before, but I couldn’t go to bed as early as I would have hoped because I still had not eaten dinner that my host mom was preparing for nine-thirty at night! I did not expect it to be that late! But I enjoyed spending the rest of my evening with them and being able to then get the sleep that I needed. I’ve already learned a few Italian phrases and words that I didn’t know before, and have been practicing them throughout this morning. My host family just moved into a new home and does not have WiFi until Friday, so I have had to hunt for it on my own by finding small cafes and places where it’s free. I already love Rome and am excited for this week ahead!
