What were you grateful for this week?
My host family is being very accommodating and always making sure I like the food I am given.
What was the most challenging part of this week?
The most challenging part is not knowing the language. It is very difficult figuring out what people are saying to me.
Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week.
Now that I am becoming more familiar with how my host family lives I am cleaning up after myself more and am keeping my room organized.
Tell us about your week!
I am still pretty new to this country so it is often confusing for me. I am slowly learning the families schedule. So each day I am able to help out more and more. I am getting along great with my little girl and we bond more everyday. I gave her a book I brought from America when I first arrived and we read it together for the first time this week. Before I gave her the book I wrote a little inscription just inside the cover telling her that this was a book I read when I was her age and that I was excited to spend time with her. She loved it so much she made me and her mother read it to her several times. It was so sweet.
I have been having a hard time figuring out how the local restaurants work so on Saturday my host mom took me around and showed me what type of food was at each place. We went out for lunch that day and I got to eat at my first ever hot pot restaurant. We ordered a bunch of different types of meats and cooked it in coconut water.
The next day I got to meet all the other au pairs that are in ShenZhen. It was so nice getting to hang out with people on the exact same situation I was. They were almost all from different countries so it was very interesting hearing about their lives. Looking forward to another great week.
