What were you grateful for this week?
Friends.
What was the most challenging part of this week?
It’s been really hard to be alone for the majority of my time, I meet up with friends from the program on the weekend but that’s about the only social aspect of my week.
Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week.
Something extra I did this week for my host family was set out the breakfast for the next day when the parents went out for dinner and didn’t get home until late.
Tell us about your week!
This week flew by. I love how close I am getting with the youngest boy, we play from the time he gets home from school until the time he goes to bed. I get along good with the older two boys too but I’m still trying to get them more engaged in speaking english with me.
Although I talked about being lonely this experience has taught me it’s ok to do things by myself. I can now say I have gone to a sit down restaurant by myself (I would have NEVER done that at home). I have also learned traveling isn’t just something you get right off the bat, it takes time to get good at finding flight deals, connecting train times, booking airbnbs and coordinating with several other people. Those are all skills I will continue to need and use throughout my future traveling experiences.
This weekend a group of us went to Naples and I had the BEST pizza of my life, but my favorite part was visiting Pompeii! With an audioguide I felt like I was really able to experience what the city was like so many years before. I was also a little sad to see what a tragedy it must have been — 2,000 people were not able to escape the city fast enough. We saw children and animals incased in lava rock.
