What were you grateful for this week?
I was grateful for my host family being so welcoming and helping me get settled.

What was the most challenging part of this week?

The most challenging part was trying to find ways around some language barriers we had.

Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week.
I brought my host family a few gifts from my hometown so they could see what that area looks like and even try some locally made candy.

Tell us about your week!
This was my first week ever in China. It has been really exciting and a little overwhelming. It took me one full day to get here which is the longest I’ve ever had to travel for. My first day here we went to a museum where we got to see animal skeletons and learn a bit about China’s history. I spent the next few days settling in and getting adjusted to a different time zone. During those days I got to explore a little bit of the city and visited a park that is very near where i’m staying. The park was really beautiful and very clean.

One thing I’ve noticed about this city that I love is that there are trees and plants everywhere. Which in my opinion makes the city that much more beautiful.

Yesterday was my first day working, it was a lot of fun getting to know the little girl and to see what her schedule is like. I brought the little girl a book from America and it should be a lot of fun to teach her how to read it. I am excited to get to know the family better and start learning the local language. I am also really excited to try all the different food that they have. It is very different from America here but I’m sure it won’t take me too long to adjust.
