What were you grateful for this week?
This week I am grateful for opportunity! My host family gave me the choice to stay with another family anywhere in Italy for a week and of all the places in this country, I chose Genova! So far, it’s been the best experience! 

What was the most difficult or challenging part of this week?
The most difficult & challenging part of this week has been traveling alone. I usually find other Au Pair friends to join me on weekend’s in a new city, but since I’m exploring during the week days, it has been difficult to find company. It’s quite lonely, but it’s also a great way to build confidence and figure things out for myself. I’ve also become a professional at using the self timer on my camera hahaha. 

 

Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week. 
I arrived to my temporary host family’s home on the weekend, therefore I was “off”. However, I chose to spend all of Friday with them and even though cleaning isn’t a part of my job, I made sure to tidy up the kitchen and living room.

Ah this week was quite different from the rest!

I got to help out with the family a lot more this week. My host parents were both SUPER busy, so they really needed my help. I got to prepare dinner two nights out of the week…haha that was interesting. The first night, I completely ruined it. I didn’t make enough for everyone, and then I forgot to add salt to the pasta so it tasted like nothing. The second night tho, I made up for it and the dinner turned out much better.

Later in the week, I packed my bags and took a bus to Genova! My host family was leaving on vacation, so they sent to me to another host family of my choice. Arriving into Genova has been by far my best moment here in Italy. The beauty here is unlike any other. When we were driving through the “mountains,” my stomach dropped, my heart starting beating like crazy, and it took everything in me to hold back the tears. It was the first time it truly hit me that I am living in Italy, and how blessed and grateful I am to be here. It’s a moment I will never forget.

I am now with my temporary host family, and I LOVE it!! The city of Genova is nothing like I expected, it’s better. I’ve walked around basically everywhere and have enjoyed every second of this seaside city. It’s also very nice because my temporary host family lived in America for a year, so it’s nice to have something in common.

Anyway, this week full of changes & new experiences has been nothing but great!
