What were you grateful for this week? I was grateful for my host family including me in all the festivities they had planned for mid autumn festival.

What was the most challenging part of this week?Because of the mid autumn festival there was no school on Friday so it was a little challenging keeping my kid entertained during the extra long weekend.

Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week. On Friday we had two 5 year old girls come over and I helped my host mom teach them about the moon festival and how to make moon cakes.

Tell us about your week! So last week I found out that my little girl has even more classes than I thought she had. So she is now gone every week day until around 5-6pm. I can’t believe how many classes kids here have to take. Luckily my little girl likes to learn and doesn’t seem to really mind.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday it was the mid autumn festival, also known as the moon festival. I was really happy I got to be here during the time of this festival because I had learned about it in school and was curious to see how it was celebrated here. My host parents and their kid all got those days off from work and school. On Thursday a couple of aupairs and I got together at OM Aupairs’ main office and we got to lean how to make moon cakes and about the history and customs of this holiday. On Friday we had two five year old girls come over. I taught them some words in English relating to the moon festival, like moon cake and folklore. Then my host mom read them a poem that was about a person looking at the moon and missing their loved ones. After that I taught them how to make moon cakes. Luckily I had done them day before so I had some idea of what to do. Then to finish off the night we had pizza delivered and we all ate it together. The rest of the weekend was pretty normal. We did go for a walk in a park last night and the moon was so big and beautiful.
