What were you grateful for this week? The opportunity to see new cities here in China.
What was the most challenging part of this week?Getting a cold.
Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week. This week’s wow moment was when [my host family’s daughter] helped me find my debit card, which I had lost at a subway station! She is the absolute best!
Tell us about your week! This week was pretty dang awesome! On Thursday, some friends and I decided to visit the Shanghai Museum! It was pretty neat! The building was four stories tall with a variety of exhibits on each story. My favorites were probably the paintings and the calligraphy. The Chinese certainly know a few things about beauty. Over the weekend, my good friend A and I had the opportunity to visit Shenzhen and Hong Kong. We needed to leave the country to renew our visas, so that is why we went to Hong Kong. On Saturday night we flew into Shenzhen. On the way to our hotel, our driver was telling us that Shenzhen is only 40 years old! Because it is such a young city, it is incredibly modern, and the majority of the population is near the age of 30! Our driver told us that Shenzhen is a great place to start a business because of all the young people dwelling there. On Sunday, we had the opportunity to go to Hong Kong. Even though Hong Kong is very small and right next to China, it is its own country. Before we crossed the border, we had to exchange currency and everything. Once we got to Hong Kong, we decided to take a bus ride and explore. Hong Kong is very costal and has tons of greenery, so it actually reminded me of Hawaii. It was so gorgeous! A and I both noticed Hong Kong had a different vibe to it, which was really cool! It seemed a little more laid back, and a lot more people knew how to speak English!
