What were you grateful for this week? Living so close to the beach!

What was the most challenging part of this week?Having a lot of rain so it was hard to do things. 

Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week. I’ve just been helping to get the family settled in the new place in Sydney! 

Tell us about your week! I made it to Sydney! So far it has been so fun! I went bar hopping over the weekend with my host mom and her friends and we ended up at a gay bar so that was a crazy experience! I never would have done anything like that back home and I’m glad that I was able to experience something new over here in Oz! Sydney is so different from Brisbane! It is much busier and loud and there is so much to do! 

Where I live is perfect because I’m 10-15 minutes away from the beach, and the city! I’ve been able to go to Coogee beach and have lunch at the pavilion, veggie pizza, and it was so good! 

My host parents have their friends over often and I hang out with all of them and it’s realky fun because they are all so nice and super funny! I find Aussie humor is a lot different than back home and it has been an adjustment but it’s been good! 

Lately I find myself saying Aussie terms and every once in a while I will say a word or sentence and I sound like I have the accent! Like instead of saying “what?” if you didn’t hear something someone said, they say “pardon” or “sorry” so I always say “sorry?” if I don’t here or understand. They also say things like “It’s pissing down rain.” when it’s raining really hard. Another thing I have picked up on is calling people “babe” and “doll.” My host mom and her friends all call everyone “babe” and my host dad calls his daughter and his wife “babe” as well. It’s so funny how you pick up on other people’s vocab, actions, etc. 

I have about a month left in Australia and I’m feeling very bittersweet about that, I’m excited to go home and see my friends and family but I will be sad to leave this beautiful country!! Here’s to more adventures!
