M’s First Week in Roma

What were you grateful for this week? I’m grateful for the metro!

What was the most difficult or challenging part of this week? This week was my first so just getting comfortable with the family and the kids was probably the most challenging.

Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week. (A “wow” moment is when you went the extra mile to do something nice for your host family.) *This week I made sure that they knew that I was grateful for them and read to the kids in Italian and English their favorite story.

Tell us about your week! This week has been great! It was my first here in Rome so it has been super exciting! I really enjoyed getting to know my host family and the boys that I get the pleasure of taking care of. There are three of them! They are super energetic and a little rambunctious, but overall, great kids! They love to play soccer and they are obsessed with Spider-Man. I really also enjoyed getting to know the city and the area a little better. It is beautiful! I learned that I really need to learn Italian as soon as possible! The boys no close to no English at all and I think if I learn some Italian, it will make it much easier for them to learn English and for us to communicate with each other. I have also learned how to use the metro efficiently and the little Italian that I do know to my advantage.

All I can say is thank goodness I know Spanish because thanks to that I am able to understand the majority of the Italian that I hear. Even that has been such a huge help. Getting lost in the city (not actually lost) has probably been my favorite thing this week. So far, I have loved every minute here and I cannot wait for all of the adventures to come!
