K2’s First Weekend in Italy

What were you grateful for this week?

My phone was not connecting to the wifi at the train station in Milan so I had no way to contact my host family to tell them I had arrived. I asked the workers and the police for help and no one would help me. Not being able to speak Italian and no phone service made for a sketchy night! But thankfully I ran into a group of girls that spoke English and they were able to help me find my host family.

What was the most difficult or challenging part of this week?

I have only been in Italy for two days and there hasn’t been anything hard except for trying to figure out the WiFi connection so that I can message people and send pictures.

Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week.

A wow moment I had this week was picking up my little girl from her school. Her uncle usually picks her up from school and I volunteered to help. The smile on her face when she saw me there to pick her up was priceless!

Tell us about your week!

After over 24 hours of straight traveling I’m officially in Italy. Still can’t believe that I get to be here and experience this with my friend S! These past two days in Italy have been amazing. The house I am living in is several centuries old and is full of historical artifacts. Paintings, sculptures, stone walls, statues and a garden out back. Like seriously gorgeous!! Lovin it because it is right up my alley since I am a history major.

The Grandma gave me the tour of the house in Italian. She doesn’t speak much English so we just smile and hug each other a lot. I love being involved with my big Italian family. The Aunt and Uncle of my little girl took us to get gelato on my first day here. I got to go out to lunch with my little girl’s teenage cousins. I ate yummy cheese ravioli at their dad’s restaurant. I love being able to chat about music, tv shows, and fashion with them. We went grocery shopping at the little market by our house. My little girl and I play the card games that I brought her and we work on her English homework together. Seriously blessed with the best host family! 🙂
